Maybe you see me as a woman who is confident, independent, has a career and hasbuilt a life in the Netherlands. But I grew up in a small town in India, where life was expected to follow a familiar path.
Get married. Settle down. Take care of your family. And don’t dream too big.
A career was never really supposed to be the main focus. But I wanted more. I wanted to study. I wanted a career. I wanted to see how far I could go.
It took time to convince my family to let me move abroad. But today, I’m married to a wonderful man, have a career I love, and live in a country I once could only imagine moving to. From a small town in India to building a career in the Netherlands – my life today looks very different from what was once expected of me.
And maybe that’s what you wouldn’t know just by looking at me. I’m not here because I followed the path that was laid out for me. I’m here because, somewhere along the way, I decided to make my own.
